I'm excited to host our book club meeting tomorrow. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to make for it. I was thinking maybe chocolate fonude? With fluff sandwiches and fruit skewers?

I finished the book last night. 450 pages in 3 days -- and I enjoyed the entire thing (except for the last 5 pages!)

Easy one. My favorite was always Barbie. I had the Barbie house (2 story), the Barbie townhouse (3 story with working elevator), Barbie McDonalds (with drive through order station), etc...

I did keep my favorite Barbie and my favorite Ken, but I got rid of all the rest. There are some poor kids somewhere playing with my collection. Actually, they're probably all in the garbage, because it's been a loooong time since I was a kid. Their heads are surely all ripped off and their clothes are torn and ragged. Barbie the Bag Lady.

I'm feeling a little sad because today is Ilish's birthday... so I would invite Ilish to my fantasy dinner party! Is she happy?

We would probably avoid talking about the new dogs. I don't know how Ilish would feel if she knew I had two dogs now. Would she be jealous? She wasn't very social ya know.

Hmm. I think we'd probably have spaghetti, because that was her favorite!

"My goal for this year is to become debt-free (or at least sorta debt-free). We'll still have our mortgage and student loan of course, but we want to have zero credit card balances and no car payments. Just thinking about how awesome that will be really makes me happy. I can't even imagine how quickly we'll be able to save without having to make all of those regular monthly payments."

We did so well! Shane has no more credit cards, we paid off his car, we've paid off well over $2000 in dental bills (only $200 left to go and that will be paid off), we have no more furniture payments, and we've cut the balance on my credit card by $1000.

Gosh, that felt really good to type. Really good.

Christmas

I wish it were still Christmas. I had an awesome Christmas!

I made myself a big breakfast (eggs, bacon, and biscuits) and then we opened presents. Shane got me 6 new cookie sheets and a cover thingy, a Wii game, the grater plater, a new electric toothbrush (which was scary at first, but now I love), AND best of all... he got me the boxed set of the Twilight books... all hardcover... Totally awesome. I brought New Moon to work with me today, and I'm going to start reading it at lunch time.

We went to my parents house for dinner. Had turkey, ham, broccoli, green beans, mashed potatoes, bread rolls, cranberry mold (haha), corn and I had three different types of wine with dinner. Van made fudge which I sampled before going to Aunt Theresa's for dessert.

Got a ton of presents. My new Coach purse (love love love!), tons of gift cards, some games, a piece for my nativity collection, a new shoe calendar, $400 cash from the grandparents, and I'm about to send off a $4,000 contribution to my IRA. Since retirement is still a long time away for me, the immediate benefit is the nice tax deduction I'll get from that :)

All in all, I'd have to say it was pretty awesome. I vote for another Christmas on 1/25.

If you don't, will you still do something festive or is it just another night?

View 766 Answers

I do celebrate Christmas. I also happen to celebrate today which is Christmas Eve... a wonderful partial holiday in anticipation of Christmas. The great thing about Christmas Eve is that all of the shopping is done, the gifts are finally wrapped (or almost wrapped), and you know that Christmas morning is just around the corner.

No matter how old I get, the thought of 12/25 6am still makes me a tidge giddy. Even though I'm the one putting the presents under the tree instead of waking up to them already there, there's still just something happy about it.

It's my favorite holiday and I always want to be happy at Christmas. So what will I do this evening? Well, I went to church with my family, then out to eat dinner, and now I think I'm going to go downstairs and watch some tv by myself and have a tall glass of eggnog. I'm even going to use a fancy glass just for kicks.

Thanks for askin.

Commencement

Went to my first book club meeting today. It was supposed to be from 3-5, but I didn't end up leaving until like 7. Pretty cool though. We started off with discussion questions about the book, and it was awesome how they circled back to our own lives. Things that I never even drew from the story, but now can see how it relates to myself.

Didn't overly enjoy the book itself. Feminism, liberalism, lesbianism. Not for me.

The first time Melissa and I got to spend any real "talking" time together was when we were all up in New Hampshire for Josh & Michelle's wedding. I mean, we'd seen each other before (she was at our wedding, but I didn't exactly have a lot of time to chat when I was getting married) :) But we did get to talk some in NH... went out to dinner with the boys, hung out at the bar while they were doing their fantasy football draft, etc. She's really cool and a lot of fun to be around. Well that was over a year ago, and I haven't seen her many times since.

We've exchanged some comments back and forth on Facebook & I joined her book club (although I couldn't attend the first meeting). Well, her birthday was on Saturday and she invited me to come to her party. Junior had to work, so it was just going to be us girls hanging out. I am SO glad that I went!

---------------------------------------------------

Well I started this post on Monday and then my computer froze up and shut itself off. I completely forgot about it, but them saving drafts is so cool! Ok, so here's the rest of my story:

---------------------------------------------------

I drove over to her house around 6:30 and then we went and picked up Christy (I think that's her name!) and headed over to the Cheesecake Factory. We wanted to get there early because there was over an hour wait & they don't take reservations. Started my drinking at the bar and had a pomegranate margarita (no prices on the menu = expensive = 12 bucks for the drink). I only had a chichen caesar salad, but it was very good. Three other girls came for dinner and they were all drooling over our super-cute waiter (Greg). Haha.

So then the four of us (Me, Melissa, Christy, and Dani) dropped my car off at Melissa's house and headed over to Channelside... and drank and drank and drank. We picked up a bucket of Long Island Iced Tea (which is about the equivalent of 8 big cups in a bucket with a ton of straws) at Howl at the Moon, but they were PACKED to the ceiling with people so we took our bucket over to Stumps. Luckily we got a great table and the band was playing some awesome music.

It was very loud and I'm not an overly talkative person, so I just sat there drinking half the bucket ;-) Christy then provided us all with some watermelon shots (very proud of myself for doing the shot).

I guess I can sum everything up by saying that I had my margarita, the bucket, the shots, and 3 cranberry & vodkas (and there is a chance that I ordered some more drinks that I can't remember). I don't remember much of the evening, but I drank A FREAKING TON! We took a taxi back to Melissa's house (don't remember) and I tried to give the taxi driver all of my money LOL Almost fell into Melissa's shower face-first...

Shane drove all the way there to pick me up. It had to be like 4am! I have such a wonderful husband! I was so wasted that he had to pull over in the WalMart parking lot to take off my shoes for me because I kept sticking my leg up over into his lap hitting the gear thing. Probably my favorite drunk comment of the evening was when he pulled into our driveway and opened the garage door. I yelled, "Oh my God! Where's my car??" And he told me it was still at Melissa's and I said, "You can park in the MIDDLE!" So he parked in the middle of the garage and I said, "Open your door allllll the way!! Look at how much room there is!!!!"

Shane: Don't let the dogs out. They will just jump on you and knock you over.
Me: Ok I won't.
**walks inside**
Me: OMG It's my babies!! I missed you guys so much!!
**Opens the dogs crates**

I don't remember what happened after that, but I do know that I ended up sitting/laying on top of Daisy's crate. Crawled upstairs and went to bed sometime around 5am.

Woke up on Sunday around 6:30-7ish and was still quite drunk. The plan was for us to go to breakfast with my parents and then pick up my car because Shane and Dad were going to the Bucs game. That wasn't gonna happen. I felt so sick. Couldn't go back to sleep because I was too dizzy and sitting up made me feel sick. Ended up puking my brains out for pretty much the entire morning. Eventually I started feeling better and I was actually able to make it upstairs by 3pm. Shane got home from the Bucs game and we headed back up to Melissa's. Picked up my car and then went out to dinner with them.

It was just such a great weekend and so much fun! I'm really very glad that she invited me and I hope we can become even better friends :)

The kiss is truly awful, but my favorite romantic movie, no doubt, is Jane Eyre. The best version, no doubt, is with Ciaran Hinds playing Mr. Rochester:

<lj-embed id="1" />

Writer's Block: Mysterious benefactor

This question makes no sense. If it is an "anonymous recipient" then I don't get to choose who I would give it to, hence the whole "anonymous recipient" thing. Perhaps they mean I could be an "anonymous sender" ??? I'll go with anonymous recipient because I want to.

My gift would probably be a nice house. As my mortgage payments stetch out before me (something like 28.5 years left), I can't help but think how nice it would be to have payment-free housing. It's definitely one thing I took for granted growing up.

And really, who couldn't use a house? Poor people would be thrilled. Middle income folks like myself would have so much extra income each month to play with. And rich people -- could give it to a poor relative or something (or give it back to me. I'll accept returns on my house gift.)

I guess I would have to just ask him why. Why would you throw away such a friendship? Why would you want to hurt me so badly? Why? After everything we had been through.

I never confronted him. Never spoke to him again after that day. I can't even begin to describe how much it hurt & still does. Losing a friend is rough because you would like to think that your friends will always be there for you. The only person that was there for ME during the worst experience of my life. He was the only one that thought about what I was going through and my feelings. Everybody else was numb and thoughtless.

So how could it go from being best friends to enemies? I was dumb. Young and stupid even, and I didn't understand it then but I guess it gets complicated when emotions and feelings get in the middle. Sometimes I guess boys and girls can't be just friends.

No matter what I've been through, my relationship with Shane was more important than finding out the reasons why. I guess that's why I never confronted him. Didn't want the drama and I didn't want to take any risk of losng my relationship. I grew up that day though.

Writer's Block: Agree to disagree

Have you ever stopped being friends with someone over differences in political views? Are there any issues that are so important to you that you cannot be friends with someone who holds a contrary opinion?

View 981 Answers

I think it's very possible to have different political views and still remain friends. First of all, I'm not that into politics. I know what I think and I know how I'll vote, but I'm not interested in getting into debates or anything like that. *yawn* Second of all, to each his own. That's what makes this country great, right? We can have different opinions and still maintain some form of civility... I would hope...

Although, I guess some political views do show an insight into moral views. Not that I couldn't be friends with someone, but it is easier when you share common beliefs. Haha but then what am I doing with Shane? We're so different (politically and even somewhat morally)

My weekend

Left work at 3 to go to my eyeball appointment. Was there until well after 5, but that's ok. The first lady that took my IOP SUCKED! It came back higher in my left eye, and no matter how many times I told her it's because I wasn't numb and could feel everything, she just kept telling me to relax and breathe. Came back 21/25 (R/L). I wanted to say, "Lady, I've had this done a couple times (a couple hundred times). Do you really think it still makes me nervous?" What sucks about that is that they just assume I'm not taking my drops. Are you taking your drops? When was the last time you took your drops? Yes I'm taking them. 6:30am this morning. Twice a day, both eyes. Gotcha. Anyways, the doctor came in and re-did the test. 20/21 (R/L). Much better. He was training a girl, and it was kinda cool to hear him explaining everything.

Went to Panetta's afterwards with Mom and then we watched Shop Girl. Kinda blah movie, but it held my interest. THEN we had to have the health insurance discussion. Suffice it to say, I hate health insurance. Didn't get home until really late, so it was a long-ass day.

The only good thing about it was that I stayed up so late that I actually slept in on Saturday until 9:30ish. That's so not like me. Got caught up on all my dvr shows that morning, and then just cleaned the house for a lot of the day. I had been telling Shane he needs to spend more time with me, so he told me we'd hang out that night. Then he gets the call asking him about playing pool that night... lol so we went out to dinner and then he left. I wasn't overly happy about it because I would like to actually spend time with my husband on the weekends sometimes, but I took the dogs for a long walk to enjoy the nice weather. At one point, we had to walk by a house that had their sprinklers on and Milly was *not* happy about it. She walked backwards out of her collar and went to stand in the middle of the street. Luckily she didn't run away or anything, she just stood there. Cleaned the kitchen and then sat down to watch some movies by myself. Surprisingly, I was still awake when Shane got home.

I was hoping to have my exam prep book by this weekend so I could get a head start on studying, but I haven't gotten it yet. So Sunday I tried to do some research online, but it was fruitless. Shane agreed that he was going to spend time with me on Sunday... so we went to BK for lunch. Going to BK is quite a trip for us. Probably took damn near an hour there and back. I had just set up my table and had my food all set out when my mom called. She needed to talk, so of course I let her. By the time we hung my lunch was ruined. It's such a shame because I do so look forward to BK. Then he left to go to Jay's to watch some of the football game.

I know I sound like I'm complaining, but it really doesn't bother me that he does stuff with his friends. I'm glad he does, I've just been very lonely lately. You know you're going crazy when you have actual conversations with the dogs just to get some company.

I rearranged my room while he was gone. It was quite a project for me because I'm not good at moving furniture by myself haha I think it looks better now though. I turned the bed around, moved my computer desk to the other wall, and put my art table next to the cedar chest. Cleaned everything off and it's good to go.

I think he felt really guilty by the time he got home, because he actually offered to watch a movie with me. We played a board game (I won once and he won once) and watched House and he actually came to bed with me. It was so nice.

1.) Where did you meet?
At the apartment

2.) Who introduced you?
Tim

3.) What was the first thought that went through your head when you met?
That boy is CRAZY

4.) Do you remember what he/she was wearing?
I think the first time I actually met him he was wearing his black AccuClean shirt LOL And I said, hey we have them insured (in typical fashion)

5.) Where was the first place you kissed this person?
In his room

6.) How long did you know this person before you became a couple?
I knew him for several months. We started dating in March (14th) and then became exclusive in June (25th)

7.) How did he/she ask you out?
I was teasing him about being a turtle since we had dated for omg 3 whole months already.

8.) Do you have kids with this person?
Nope

9.) Have you ever broken the law with this person?
Umm, well we speed in the car together.

10.) When was the first time you realized that you really liked this person?
Probably after we started seeing each other. It kinda hits you when you are apart and you realize how much you miss them.

11.) Do you get along with his/her family?
Very much so

12.) Do you trust this person?
Yup

13.) Do you see her/him as your partner in the future?
Yes, especially since we're married :) Stuck with each other :)

14.) How well do you know your man or woman?
Very well.

17.) What features attracted you to him first?
His hair and his eyebrows. He has nice eyebrows for a guy. And I like how tall he is.

18.) Hair color?
Dark brown

19.) Does he/she let you wear their pants?
Oddly enough, he's offered his pants to me several different times. I've never accepted because I'm a girl & I don't really wear man-pants.

20.) Do you have a shirt of hers/his that you sleep in?
Now his shirts I'm ALWAYS stealing. I don't sleep in them though because I have my own pj's.

21.) What is the most romantic date he has ever taken you on?
Hmmm. Well, probably the most romantic "dates" are just when we stay home and he cooks me dinner and lights candles and all that jazz. No electricity nights.

31.) Do you have any nicknames for each other?
Yes

32.) Do you live with this person?
Yes

33.)
